In this episode I don’t have any Images to share, instead I just thought let’s sit together and talk about What is Project Management and who really is the Project Manager?
We started this series by talking about What is Project Mindset and how we see every activity around us to be looked at in form of the project, for example, take a recruitment drive happening in your company or getting interiors done for your apartment. They both are called projects
We talked about what are the important parameters to be looked at, those are Scope, Time and Cost and Manage these parameters well by taking right Go Green actions
Did you observe I never talked about How the project will be implemented, which technology will be used or what is the design and architecture of the project because those are not the areas which project manager will be looking at, those technical areas will be looked at by the Subject Matter Experts or technical team of the project.
So What stuff the project manager will be concerned about? For example,
- How much is the defined scope of the project?
- How are the activities scheduled with each other?
- And most important to protect the project to be delivered in budget and do not exceed the cost
we saw about the RAID log? Where Project manager Keeps track of all the various kinds of stuff to be considered for protecting the project from a failure.
With all the Tools, Knowledge, Experience, and Mindset Project Manager is involved in the Project, right from the inception, to execution till the end of the project. Project Manager is responsible to get things done without really doing themselves, Project Managers sits at the center point of the project and they are the unsung heroes, who make sure they are resourceful all the time, able to provide anything what the team needs to progress with their activities and keep the delivery of the project on track.
Project Manager is seen as Team Leader, they have a task to form the right team with the right capabilities, also make sure the entire team share the same understanding of the Project Goal. They just don’t create a to-do list for the team members, they make sure that the activities are in the right sequence to achieve steady progress.
From holistic point of view, Consider any industry be it, Information Technology, Pharmaceutical, Banking & Finance, Infrastructure, Media, Automobile, Food & Beverages. All the well-formed or startup companies from these industries, require project managers to run the projects flawlessly.
So I hope you have got the point, Project management is a skill, it is leadership skill which any corporate house will need it to run the projects with right talent and expertise.
Coming back to this series, Today we are sitting at the right-center of it, it is very important, that we share the same understanding about the role of the project manager.
